Research/Outreach Areas: Optical fiber communication and networking systems, device physics and sensor networks; optics education for higher education and science education for k-12.

Relevant Past Experience: Principal Investigator at the Advanced Research Laboratory in Bell Labs Holmdel, NJ worked on forward looking research in transmission technology for dense wavelength division multiplexing at 40Gb/s and 10 Gb/s long haul-systems; conducted complete Metro system studies from research stage to development stage using novel modulation techniques for low cost access systems; implemented high- speed back plane interconnects using copper, polymer waveguides, and ribbon fibers at rates higher then 10 Gb/s per channel.
